Kellie has forever established herself as a pole vault stud. For her to blow up a pole like that, come back not even phased and make the Olympic team deserves much respect.
Chelsea barely missed the team with this jump at 4.50m. Not a bad performance for the 20 year old.
Jillian Schwartz makes another team!
Stacy with a good attempt at the World Record.
I think Stacy set three records with this one jump.
Some have requested Tim Mack's winning jump at 19'4¼"
This is arguably the most clutch jump of the prelims. Kurt was also called on time and since they gave Hartwig another shot Kurt was awarded another jump as well. This jump happened at least 40 minutes after Kurt thought he was finished. He had one shot at this bar and stepped up.
Some would say that Tim didn't have any good looks at the American Record. But from what I can tell this was a darn good look.
Here is what I would say was the most clutch jump of the comp. Tim's last attempt make at 5.85 to bring him from 7th to 2nd.
Toby basically blew up 5.85 (19-02.25) on his first. Check the hip height.
I wanted to put this one up first. This clip shows how close Jeff was to making the finals, and how brutal the pole vault can be. He was over this by a good foot. Jeff was getting the worst of the winds.
Toby got on his 14.6 in warm-ups. When he went to his 13.8 he noticed a ding in the pole just below where his bottom hand goes on the outside of the bend. Without hesitation he went to his 510m 13.4 and still blew through on this make. Check the reverse full twist on the way down.
This is something you would only see at the trials prelims with two pits going. Derek Miles and Brad Walker have a double make. Respect to Miles for keeping focus with Brad in front of him and to the right. The one minute time limit was in place so there was very little room for error.

Dean Starkey says "New sport: synchronized pole vaulting!"
Daniel Ryland looking very strong over 18 feet from seven lefts. Right before this jump Daniel looked over at Earl Bell and said "Man . . . I'm a little nervous right now", Earl seemed to just give a reassuring nod and Daniel was up over and in the finals. His celebration says it all.
Tye Harvey looking very good as well.
Tim Mack looking poised and ready for the finals.
