You can be the fastest pole vaulter in your conference, but if you don't have good gymnastics ability, you can't take advantage of your speed. Or if you're someone who is not the fastest vaulter, you can still jump high with excellent gymnastics ability.
One of the hurdles to incorporating gymnastics training into a pole vault program is the lack of gymnastics equipment at high schools. Look in the Yellow Pages for a gymnastics gym near you, and ask them if they have any open classes available. Most gyms will actually create a class if you get enough vaulters together. |
